December 24

When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.

And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

- Matthew 2:10-11

But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.
- Luke 2:10

Photo: A manger-scene potpourri sachet, made for me by my sister. It speaks to me of gifts -- the valuable and fragrant gifts the wise men gave and the gifts we give each other. We too ponder this beautiful story of God coming to us and can't help but want to respond with a gift of our own -- too little but really the only thing of value we can give Jesus our King: the gift of ourselves.
